What is an agent environment?

A plain explanation of the pieces of an agent environment, with links to the main open projects. Last checked 25 October 2026.

01 · THE PIECES
  • Task: a request the agent must handle, such as “pay this person” or “plan this trip”.
  • World: the simulated system the agent acts in: accounts, trains, orders, documents.
  • Tools: the actions the agent may call to look at or change the world.
  • Grader (verifier): a program that scores what the agent did. In RL training this score is the reward.
  • Held-out tasks: tasks kept private so a score cannot come from memorising the public set.
02 · HOW RESULTS ARE REPORTED

pass@1 is the share of tasks solved in one attempt. pass^k, used in tau-bench, counts a task only if all k attempts succeed, which shows how reliable an agent is.

04 · WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT NAVITAL GYM

It covers Indian workflows (rail quotas and waitlists, UPI, GST, PIN codes, Hindi and Hinglish support). Some tasks have no valid answer on purpose. The core score never comes from a model’s opinion. We have not yet published results, so we make no claim about difficulty.
